The Club Scene: Young singer Vicci Martinez showcases her live DVD

Though she's only 21 years old, singer/songwriter Vicci Martinez has the marketing savvy of a much older, wiser performer.

The Tacoma-based vocalist appeared on "Star Search" in 2003, winning one round, but then wisely turned down her opportunity to join "American Idol." (She had her ticket to L.A. in hand, but according to her bio, realized she wasn't ready to "sell her soul.") She also may have realized that her throaty vocals were much more likely to hook fans of Melissa Etheridge and Sheryl Crow than Kelly Clarkson.

Martinez's latest project is a live DVD that was recorded at The Triple Door last October. She's officially releasing it at a show at the club on March 19, but if you want a preview, she's part of the "Songwriters and Storytellers" showcase there on Saturday (7 p.m. and 10 p.m.; $17.50 at 206-838-4333 or $21 at the door).
